2 Image Film or Digital FAQ
Q1- What does a 2 image 3D lenticular from a digital file look like?
A- It looks very similar to our film based pictures depending on the quality of the original images. There also tends to be more parallax in lenticulars made from normal 2 lens 3D cameras than lenticular cameras. To see what our lenticular pictures look like in general you can order our sample kit. Please specify that you want a 2 image 3D print from a digital file as your sample.
Q2- How many frames of 3D can be put into the picture?
A- In this section of our website we have the regular 2 image (left and right) as the number of frames used. A smoother lenticular with a wider “sweet spot” is possible with more frames than just the left and the right. Up to 14 frames of 3D are possible but 5 frames is usually more suitable. These extra frames usually don’t exist in regular stereo pictures but they can be generated by us for an extra fee or in the case of computer generated 3D be outputted by the computer. Go to our “Special Services” page for more information.
Q3- What type of 2 image 3D pictures qualify for making lenticulars?
A- If you have a regular flat 2D picture that you want converted to 3D refer to our 2D to 3D Conversion page. If you already have a 2 image stereo slide picture from a 3D camera or a 3D print such as from a historical Stereocard we can make it into a lenticular after it is prepared to our instructions. (See Digital 3D Tutorial). We can make a lenticular from slide bar 3D, digital camera and computer generated 3D as well. However all 3D pictures whether they are film or digital have to come to us as digital files. The only exception is 3D on negative film which can be printed directly. (See our “Other 3D cameras” section).
Q4- What do I have to do to get my existing 3D made into lenticulars?
A- You scan or otherwise make your left and right images into digital files and then put them into our image templates which can be downloaded. (See “Digital 3D Templates”) and following our instructions. (See our Tutorial). You will need an imaging program such as Adobe Photoshop (See Adobe) to accomplish this.
Q5- Can you scan my images and do all the preparation and give me my finished lenticular print if I don’t have Adobe Photoshop and/or the necessary image preparation skills?
A- We don’t like to accept your original pictures except under specially arranged circumstances. We can do the image preparation from your scans for a fee but we don’t fix up the pictures if they need work. There are services that can do image repair for you. They also could do the image preparation for you at the same time.
Q6- I have my left and right images on a digital file but I don’t know anything about imaging or how to prepare my 2 image 3D picture or use your template.
A- That’s OK. Using our 3D templates can save you some time and money in preparing your images but if you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself then we can prepare it for you ($25 prep fee) and send you the finished 3D lenticular along with the negatives so that you can get cheap reprints in the future. However, you do have to get scans done to send us digital files over the internet. These can be done by a good photo store in your area.
Q7- How do I prepare the files to send to you?
A- See our “Digital 3D Tutorial”.
Q8- How do I send the finished file to you for printing?
A- See our “Send us finished files” Tutorial.
